    Avocado toast is such a staple in my home and I would love to personally thank the magnificent human who thought to put avocado on toast. So if anyone knows the original creator of avocado toast… Please let me know so I can give a formal thank you!

    There are quite a few reasons why this tasty dish is such a favorite of mine. For starters, it is so simple! It just takes hardly any time to assemble, and just even less time than that to consume! There are so many different ways to eat avocado toast… I think at my wedding, I will have an avocado toast bar with all the fixings to dress it up! Call it genius? I think I will!

    How to make an epic avocado toast

    1. Avocados
      • Obviously avocados are the key component in this recipe. You want to make sure on the day you are making your toast, that you have the ripest most perfect avocados! You don’t want you avocado too firm, but yet you also don’t want it too soft. If it’s too firm, it won’t slice well for you and don’t even think about mashing it. If it is too soft or has started to spoil, it’s just not pretty.
        • If you like your avocado sliced, top your toast with thin little slices that are fanned out. If you prefer it mashed, mash it baby!
    2. Bread.
      • Sourdough is my favorite, but use your favorite! I also prefer my bread just slightly toasted. This helps ensure none of your toppings fall off your bread. If your bread is too soft, it might break and that would just be tragic.
    3. Seasonings.
      • Everything tastes better with a little salt! But seriously, add a pinch of pink salt or top your masterpiece with a sprinkle of flakey sea salt. YUM!

    You can totally stop here and have the most tasty, delicious breakfast… but let’s reach for the stars!

    Take your avocado toast to the next level’

    1. Fresh herbs.
      • There is nothing prettier than a fresh herb garnish! My favorites are dill, basil, sautéed rosemary or a pinch of parsley!
    2. Garlic, always.
      • Am I the only one who thinks everything tastes better with a little bit of garlic? Finely chop a fresh garlic clove and sauté in a pan for a quick minute with a teaspoon or two of Fourth & Heart ghee.
    3. Eggs.
      • Add some extra protein to your breakfast by topping your toast with a fried egg or poached is my favorite! I love to cook it sunny side up if I’m frying so I can dip my toast in the yolk.
    4. Smoked salmon.
      • Skip the price tag on buying a toast at brunch with smoked salmon and just make it yourself instead! My favorite is the smoked salmon from Trader Joe’s.
    5. Greens.
      1. There is something about arugula on EVERYTHING. I am obsessed and I don’t care who knows it. But seriously, add a handful of arugula or spinach under your avocado because hashtag, health.

    There are an abundance of toppings you can add on your avocado toast. The limit does not exist!

    A few more of my favorites are:

    • Toasted pine nuts
    • Red pepper flakes or cracked black pepper
    • A squeeze of fresh lemon juice
    • A drizzle of high quality, extra virgin olive oil
    • Pesto
    • Cream cheese
    • Everything but the bagel seasoning
    • Tomatoes
    • Proscuitto
    • Goat cheese or feta
    • A drizzle of balsamic vinegar
    • Hot sauce
    • Red onion, green onion or caramelized yellow onion
    • Hemp seeds or chia seeds

    Ingredients

    • 4 slices smoked salmon
    • 2 tbsp ghee
    • 1 avocado
    • 1/2 cup arugula
    • 1 tbsp fresh dill
    • 1 lemon
    • extra virgin olive oil
    • cracked pepper
    • pink salt
    • red pepper flakes

    Instructions

    • Toast your bread.
    • Layer with ghee, smoked salmon, arugula, avocado, fresh dill, red pepper flakes, cracked pepper, pink salt, squeeze of lemon and a drizzle of olive oil. Enjoy!

    Notes

    This loaded avocado toast is delicious just the way, but feel free to make it your own! Add cream cheese, hot sauce, capers or literally whatever you want!
